Overview
Uttarakhand, formerly known as Uttaranchal, is a state in the northern part of India. It is often referred to as the "Devbhumi" due to its religious significance and numerous Hindu temples and pilgrimage centres found throughout the state. Uttarakhand is known for the natural environment of the Himalayas, the Bhabar and the Terai regions. It borders the Tibet Autonomous Region of China to the north; the Sudurpashchim Pradesh of Nepal to the east; the Indian states of Uttar Pradesh to the south and Himachal Pradesh to the west and north-west. You can visit Uttarakhand any time of the year. In summer, the state's mountains and meadows come alive with wild flowers and green carpets and treks are easy. You can also enjoy rafting and hot air ballooning in summer. In June to August, enjoy the unique beauty of the Valley of Flowers. In winter, expect dreamy snowfall and cozy warm evenings and also snow adventures. In winters during January, February & March snowfall is seen as an attraction on the various hill stations & various snow based activities.
