The Andaman Islands are an Indian archipelago in the Bay of Bengal. These roughly 300 islands are known for their palm-lined, white-sand beaches, mangroves and tropical rainforests. Coral reefs supporting marine life such as sharks and rays make for popular diving and snorkeling sites. Indigenous Andaman Islanders inhabit the more remote islands, many of which are off limits to visitors.

1. How do I reach Andaman Island?
The airport at Port Blair is well connected to all major cities of India. Ships are available from Kolkata, Vizag and Chennai but tickets must be booked in advance. Since a 3-day journey is exhausting, prefer flights as they are the more convenient option.
2. Do Indians need a passport to visit Andaman?
No. Indians do not require a passport to visit Andaman.
3. What is the best time to visit Andaman?
The Andaman is a tropical island. July to September is a rainy season. The best time to visit is from October to May, especially if you are interested in exploring the different water sports offered. The visibility is good and the seas are calmer. But you can expect light showers in November and December.
4. What are the local transport options in Andaman?
You can hire a bicycle on a daily basis at Port Blair and Havelock. Carry a license and helmet if you wish to hire a bike. There are no petrol stations and the fuel is sold in cans. If on a shoestring budget, you can travel by bus from Port Blair to Northern Andaman.
